#25: Springy

A joyful piece inspired by a lovely spiring day. Attentive listeners will notice that the middle section contains my first improvised f-u-g-u-e, which is exciting for me and you can expect more of that sort of thing.

So, how improvised is the fugue? Especially in these initial days, I have a pretty good idea of what the main theme and countersubject will be from playing around earlier in the day, as well as where it's likely to travel and some ideas for transitions, and of course keeping it to three voices! Still, it is not a rehearsed entity, just a grasp on a projected game plan, which in my opinion makes it more alive. As I get more fugal facility, perhaps this situation can get "looser". In any case, it's the ultimate rush for me. To coin a phrase – contrapuntal extreme sports!
