#235-6: Into and out of Chopin Etudes

April 18, 2007

Etude 10/5 (Black Key): 18 April 2007

Etude 10/6: 18 April 2007

Two etudes in related keys, next door in the set – but how very different. I just can’t imagine plunging into these buffered by silence anymore, it seems cognitively dissonant. So this is a paired set – I prelude into 10/5 and then starting at the beginning of the next track, transition-prelude into 10/6. Transition preluding was of course part of the performance practice all through the classical and Romantic era. If you don’t know Mozart’s one written-out “Modulating Prelude”, meant as a sample of what he improvised all the time, maybe I should record it and put it up here.

I vote for recording the Mozart modulating prelude!
